Almost American

Directed by Sam Soliman, Saritha Rothermel

For Sam, America has always been home. Yet without a pathway to citizenship, he and over half a million DACA recipients live in limbo, dependent on a temporary status renewed every two years. When his mother is suddenly deported by ICE, Sam must confront his own precarious reality through a new lens. His journey reveals how today’s immigration policies not only decide who gets to stay, but shape the story America tells about who belongs.

Homecoming and Going

Directed by Kristie Ko

New immigrants Emily and her fiancé Vincent arrive at the home of Megan, an old classmate who has lived in London for several years. After so many years apart, their paths cross for one short day, as Megan shows them around their new neighbourhood. Observing how native her friend has become, Emily questions why Megan is leaving it all behind to return to Hong Kong. Both women struggle to articulate their decisions to each other, and to themselves. Megan hands over the apartment keys to Emily, the two exchange fates and carry on in a cycle of uncertainty.

Daily Worker

Directed by Ting Su

Set within the quiet, dimly lit preservation lab, DAILY WORKER documents the digitization project of film negatives from the early 20th-century union newspaper “Daily Worker,” which covered an important era of New York City’s labor movements. Through repetitive work routines, archival film negatives, and personal photographs, the filmmaker finds echoes of her mother’s early migrant labor in China resonating with the faces of workers captured in the archive. A time capsule in reversal, the film patches together a collective and personal memory touched by the hands of daily workers.

ITALIANO

Directed by Mehdi Davachi

Two Iranian gay boys during the Women’s Freedom Movement want to smuggle themselves out of Iran due to the difficult living conditions for gays, but they face difficulties in financing the smuggling trip.

Confucius Plaza

Directed by Zijin Wang

When a pit bull wondered into his apartment, a young Chinese immigrant in Chinatown becomes her caretaker. As he attempts to keep the dog, everyday obstacles—housing rules, money, and fear of authorities—turn compassion into risk. Their brief bond reveals the quiet ethics of care in a city that often looks away.
