Set within the quiet, dimly lit preservation lab, DAILY WORKER documents the digitization project of film negatives from the early 20th-century union newspaper, Daily Worker, which covered an important era of New York City’s labor movements. Through repetitive work routines, archival film negatives, and personal photographs, the filmmaker finds echoes of her mother’s early migrant labor in China resonating with the faces of workers captured in the archive. A time capsule in reversal, the film patches together a collective and personal memory touched by the hands of daily workers.

Ting Su is a Chinese filmmaker and sound designer based between New York and Shenzhen. Her works have been screened at Visions du Réel, True/False, Melbourne International Film Festival, and UnionDocs, among others. With a tactile and sensitive gaze, her diaristic work crawls between themes of migration, time, and queer identity through hybrid non-fiction forms. Daily Worker is her first short film.
