Presented with five chapters, SOUTHEAST ASIAN AMERICAN JOURNEYS follows different refugee communities across the US: The Market is the journey to the Southeast Asian Market in south Philadelphia’s FDR Park. Threads paints a sprawling portrait of indigenous Montagnard refugee community in North Carolina, threading intergenerational history-making. Teb Chaw (Land) is an immersive vignette of Hmong farmers transforming local foodways in a diversified Minnesota. Muoz-Doic Mixtape is an offering of intergenerational storytelling from the Mien community of Portland, Oregon. Between Us follows the multilayered stories of queer Cambodian and Vietnamese cultural workers in southern California.

Quyên Nguyen-Le’s film work – spanning between documentary, video installation, and scripted genres – focuses on the ways histories are deeply felt in the quotidian everyday.

Joua Lee Grande is a filmmaker and community educator with a deep commitment to elevating underheard voices. Her short film ON ALL FRONTS was the opening episode for a series that won a Silver Anthem Award and received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2023.

Oanh-Nhi Nguyen is an award-winning filmmaker whose decade-long commitment to gender and racial justice drives her storytelling. An AFI Conservatory MFA graduate, Oanh-Nhi has directed ten narrative shorts and documentary episodes that have reached audiences from the Smithsonian American Art Museum to festival circuits nationwide.
