Heart and Sol

Directed by Donovan Decano

Heart and Sol is a personal homage to identity, resilience, and the beauty of everyday life. As a third-generation Filipino American, I was drawn to James Adriano’s story not just for its cultural resonance, but for its emotional honesty. His journey from the Philippines to Berlin, and the community he built through his karaoke bar, speaks to the universal desire for belonging and self-expression.

Donovan “Donny” Decano is a recent graduate of the Film and Television Production undergraduate program at Loyola Marymount University. He is a third-generation Filipino-American committed to crafting visual stories that aim to educate, inspire, and build empathy. Donovan considers it a privilege to draw from this cultural heritage and seeks to amplify underrepresented voices, particularly within the Filipino diaspora, through emotionally honest and visually compelling filmmaking.
