Through the lens of Chardi Kala, a Sikh MMA fighter battles for success in the cage while staying true to his faith, identity, and unbreakable spirit.
Content warning: blood/gore
As a Sikh American filmmaker from Jamaica, Queens, Gurveer Singh‘s perspective on the world was shaped by his dichotomous upbringing in New York City and a close-knit Punjabi family. Stories of people who are struggling with identity and the weight of expectations, have always captivated him. To portray that internal struggle, Singh’s films combine stylized imagery, honesty, and humor. He makes an effort to investigate what it means to be noticed in a society that ignores you all the time.
