When a fire destroys a beloved community bookstore, its hyper-independent owner, Lucy, is forced to do the very thing she was taught not to do—ask for help. In doing so, Lucy grapples with her ingrained belief that we can only rely on ourselves to survive. The overwhelming support from her community, raising $370,000 in just 3 days from over 7,000 people, in addition to multiple fundraisers, transforms Lucy and forces her to realize that community is necessary for our survival.
Claudine Cho is a Korean-American political speechwriter who has written for top Democratic leaders, including the late health care activist, Ady Barkan, named Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People. Prior to her U.S. political work, she helped establish the Museum of Sexual Slavery in South Korea.
Esther Chan is a queer Chinese-Vietnamese American editor based in Brooklyn, NY. She has dedicated her film career to telling stories that lead to social change. She is currently fighting for abortion rights as the Director of Video and Post-Production at Planned Parenthood.
